As an active associate member, Antena visited the Trans Europe Halles Camp Meeting #98 during 10-13 October 2024. This time we could take 5 colleagues from different Antena members (Stanica Žilina-Záriečie, NÁSTUPIŠTE 1 – 12, Diera do sveta). The hosting organisation was Fix in Art, a small centre in the landscapes of rural Greece, Epanomi, 30 minutes away from the city of Thessaloniki. The sunny weather and ocean air motivated us for a productive meeting.
This was an important meeting for us. A few weeks before the meeting, we initiated that TEH shared a statement on the situation within the cultural sector in Slovakia. This made our fellow members and policymakers aware of what is happening. While Slovakia is an extreme example, many other countries are in similar situations or getting there. This is why we discussed the next steps extensively during this meeting in Greece.
At the opening, the Slovak TEH members, including Antena, shared a statement. At the formal meetings, such as the strategic meeting and the general assembly, the topic was discussed. We spoke with many colleagues informally about the situation and Antena, among others, initiated a separate meeting on what TEH can do more to support its members and actively advocate for democratic values.
These topics are of course very loaded and serious, so Greece was a great place to have a meeting that also offers a relaxed vibe. We learned about the Greek culture and cultural field during various workshops and presentations. And we met many colleagues from all over Europe. It was a very useful meeting with concrete outcomes that we can use and share within Antena and that can help us deal with the local situation within an international perspective.
