The three-day workshop with Dutch lighting designer Loes Schakenbos will be focused on looking for procedures in the processes of illumination of theatre/dance performance. We work with specific tools such as the choice of light sources, angles, colors, intensities and time, during the creation of light design. Each choice brings a wide array of possibilities. The final visual concept with all ideas and experiments should support the works’ emotional aspect, which the creators wish to convey to the audience.
Loes will allow us to take a look into her "kitchen", she will help with analyzing productions and creating simple lighting solutions. The introductory lecture will be dedicated to theory. In the remaining days, we will focus on analyzing the already seen works and practical exercises. Being present at the three festival performances is a condition for participating. Participants of the workshop may freely attend the other events of the festival, including discussions on the topic of freedom and others.
From 1996 to 2004, Loes Schakenbos worked for the Nederlands Dans Theater. She traveled the whole world with the theatre’s productions. Among the most famous theaters she worked at are Saitama Arts Center, Paris Opera Garnier, Lincoln Center, Sydney Opera House, and Muziek Theater Amsterdam. After gaining experience in Korzo Theater in the Hague, where she worked as a technician and light designer, she decided to begin freelancing. She usually focuses on contemporary dance in the field of light design and technical production. She has worked with choreographers such as Jiří Kylián, Jiří Pokorný, André Gingrax, Václav Kuneš, Marina Mascarell, Alida Dors, Nanine Linning, and many more.
The workshop of Škola svetelného dizajnu (School of Light Design) will take place during the International Theatre Festival Divadelná Nitra 2019 under the topic "Forms of freedom".

Workshop fee: 25, - euro (including the ticket for shows, which are part of the workshop). The workshop is designed for students of filmmaking and dramaturgy, theatre sciences, technicians, lighting designers, choreographers, performers, dramaturgists, and theatre theoreticians.
The first lecture, taking place on 30.9., is accessible to public and university students
interested in broadening their knowledge on lighting design.
